Welcome at TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH
The association of TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH was founded in 1991 with the aim of promoting art and culture on a broad basis. The idea was to create an interface between tradition and modernity, art and craft, research and instruction, experiment and practice.
Historically Haslach is an ideal location for the association’ purposes. Situated on the banks of the river Mühl in the Upper Mühlviertel, Haslach and its surroundings was an important centre for the linen industry for centuries, and to a lesser extent is still today. The work of the team of TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH harks back to this tradition, but also wants to bring new impulses to the region.
The members of the association work in a voluntary capacity. Every year there is a summer symposium which has turned into a famed international meeting of textile people. For a fortnight there are courses on weaving on the hand-loom and a large number of other textile techniques and modes of creation held by instructors and instructresses from several countries. TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH also organised a Weavers’ Market which is renowned far beyond the region. Textile creators from all over Europe present their high-quality products and individual creations in the oldest part of the town. At the same time the trade fair “Faserzone” for yarns and accessory materials is held. Parallel to the symposium there are also a number of exhibitions, experimental workshops as well as a supporting programme with specialised lectures, theatre and dance performances, readings, fashion shows and musical events, which are open to all, professionals and non-professionals.
Since 2010 the association has been organising various week-end courses for textile techniques in the workshops of the Textile Centre Haslach. Under the roof of a former weaving mill in the heart of Haslach several partners are at work, all with a textile emphasis, which opening up many new ways of cooperation on this interface of museum, production, contemporary art and learning/training.
