Founded in 1991, the society TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH has chosen the fostering of textile art and culture as its main objective with its intention being the fusion of traditional and modern, art and technology, crafts and industry, investigation and teachings, experiments and practical.
In this area, Haslach offers the ideal historical foundation. Located at the river Mühl in the upper Mühlviertel, the village and its surroundings have represented an important centre of the linen industry for centuries. The team of TEXTILE KULTUR HASLACH is eager to pass on this tradition in an up-to-date way.
The voluntarily lead association annually organises the SOMMERSYMPOSIUM is arranged, this event of the duration of 14 days involves a variety of courses covering a wide range of techniques from the operation of a loom to all sorts of textile techniques, instructed by acknowledged course instructors from various countries. Additionally every year the well-known Weavers Market is arranged, whose popularity has been crossing regional boundaries. Artists working in the textile field present their high-quality products as well as individual creation in the ancient quarter named “Auf der Stelzen”. A number of workshops, experimental workshops, exhibitions and a supporting programme including professional lectures, theatre-, music- and dance performances and readings round off the symposium and are open to public as well as professionals.
